McCormick Soon to Reopen

The McCormick Center for Human Services is set to finish construction and furnishing before the Fall 2025 semester. We still don’t know when classes will finally reside within the building.

Construction has been ongoing since Spring 2023. The project started from a generous donation of $5.3 million to the BU Foundation, designed to help students become professionals within the broadcasting industry.

What can we expect from the new McCormick?

It will feature class and lecture rooms for nursing, education, and criminal justice majors, but will also include the foreseeable Kerby Confer Media Center, for WHSK radio and NBS (National Broadcasting Society) use.

Asa Kelley, Video Production Specialist at CU-Bloomsburg, states that TV studio equipment upgrades will be ongoing through 2027. The current rumor: a constant stream of WHSK Radio will play throughout the building 24/7.

But Media and Journalism club student involvement has been decreasing since 1990, and these organizations are not the only MEDJ groups that have suffered from a lack of participation.

Will there even be enough WHSK Radio and NBS club members to fill the new studio?
