Ready for Radio: WHSK’s McCormick Move-In

Imagine stepping inside an academic building that promises a new future for campus media. As you sweep through the entrance, you’re greeted with sleek glass office walls that hold exciting technology and creativity inside. Vibrant music from a radio station plays overhead, and the hum of a bustling newsroom anticipates your walk into the lobby. Every corner of the enticing space contains media in motion, and signals a new era for storytelling in the digital age.

For many media students, the reinvention of McCormick Center for Human Services is a fantasy-turned-reality. The long-awaited reopening is an especially invigorating change for 91.1 WHSK The Husky, CU-Bloomsburg’s very own campus radio station.

WHSK will move from their temporary location on the second floor of Waller Administration Building into McCormick during the summer. The club will continue to use their current technology and equipment in the new office, but the station’s General Manager Caleb Brown anticipates a visually different atmosphere from the new McCormick.

“We’ll be front and center of everything, and encased in glass,” Brown states. “Students will see the station first thing as they’re walking in.”

The radio has been tucked away until now, from its former McCormick location in the very back of the building, to its current location. But WHSK Treasurer Colin McGrain is excited for the station to be propelled into the forefront of campus media.

McGrain, a junior Secondary Education History major, compares the new station to a fish bowl – similar to the see-through cubicles in Lycoming Hall. “You’ll be able to look directly at us.”

In addition to windowed walls, the station’s music will play throughout the building. For anyone interested in participating in student radio, now is the time to join.
